This is an online book of condolence dedicated to (William) Lamont Baillie, born Cambusnethan, Wishaw on 1 October 1948

The sudden and tragic loss of Lamont, a nephew, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, close friend, colleague and respected lawyer is heartbreaking and difficult for us all to comprehend.  He meant so much to so many - we have created this page to help celebrate his life.

He loved life, stimulating conversation and always made time to listen and offer his wise words of wisdom.  He enjoyed peace and quiet too, to wander the hills and take the time to reflect.  This invigorated that active, inquisitive mind always ready to challenge the status quo.

With a cheery disposition, a passion for people, a great sense of fun and mischief, Lamont was a true gentleman, kind, compassionate and caring.  He was a fiercely loyal man who cherished his family and valued his relationships with others.

Whether it was with family, friends, colleagues or clients, Lamont was often at his happiest enjoying a good Italian meal, with fine red wine, followed by an impromptu chorus or two and a good Havana cigar (dutifully brought back by anyone who happened to be abroad).

Quirky, demanding and unique. He will be sorely missed.

Sadly, due to COVID-19 requirements and a recent tightening of restrictions, the funeral service must be a private one.  We are devastated by this, but as a family, we will organise a celebration of Lamont's life post COVID-19 to give him the send off he truly deserves.  We look forward to sharing this occasion with you but in the meantime please use this page to contribute your stories, thoughts and photographs of Lamont - we hope it brings some comfort at this extremely difficult time. As Lamont was a keen supporter of the charity CHAS (Children's Hospice Across Scotland), we would kindly ask you to make a donation, in lieu of funeral flowers, using the link on this page.

With love,

Doreen, Kenneth, Sarah and Andrew Baillie x
